Here families were faced with many decisions. How did they get there? In a covered wagon, pulled by oxen!Ī Tour of the Trail The most popular starting point for the trip was St. The journey took four to six months and the travelers faced many hardships for the promise of a better life. Louis, Missouri and crossed over two thousand miles of plains and mountains, finally ending in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. In the years that followed, many other settlers followed. This, due to my motivational speech, should at the very least earn a point of extra credit. In 1834, a group of missionaries traveled west to the Oregon territory. This masterpiece of American literature will forever entice people to go out and buy the 11 year old game “The Oregon Trail” and go ham. I, however, see the importance of posting this blog. Due to the lack of this blog having very little to do with Spanish culture or anything we did in class, it will most likely receive very few points. This has been a miscellaneous and totally ad-libbed blog by your own McCoy Matthias. So even though I have played this game now for roughly 11 years, I have never figured out what those people are saying.

However, being a teacher is only one notch above being an artist, and I already stated how dumb that decision is. The only way that you can understand these people is if you choose to be a teacher at the start of the game. Obviously the game decides to be realistic in this event, and you cannot understand a word they are saying, due to the fact that they are speaking Spanish. These strangers can be anything from survivors of an Indian attack and all they do is beg for some supplies(I never give them any, they will probably just trade it for booze), or they could be a group of Mexicans who have traveled into America to settle. Another random occurrence is when you randomly come across strangers. This is pretty squatchy due to the fact that you never see anyone on the Oregon Trail besides people in your party, so someone is obviously the culprit. Although the maximum number of people you can have in your party including you is six, you never do find out who stole the goods. This causes you to now have no resources and have to go rummaging for supplies in lord knows where. Along the journey many various and random circumstances can occur, one circumstance is where all your wagon possessions are stolen. Once you buy all your necessities (I recommend oxen and guns, nothing else) you begin the 2000 mile long journey to Oregon, or Sacramento, or Jacksonville (Oregon not Florida), or you could go with the noob choice and go to Salt Lake City.

The artist, due to a lack of useful skills in everyday life and lack of steady income, is a horrible option and you should be stoned for even considering choosing this as your starting point. All jobs have different perks, the banker has a ton of money, so he is extremely easy to win the game as. You must first choose a job, which determines your skills as well as money you start off with. This land that I am talking about is Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, and possibly Washington if you take a shortcut that isn’t really a shortcut. These lands are devastatingly devastating and can kill you, your party, and all of your oxen. In this edition, you do as you do in all the other games and take your wagon train across the treacherous and unknown lands between Independence, Missouri, and Oregon. How will you survive now that you have lost 48 pounds of bacon?!?!? How?!įirst off, I am most familiar with the 5th edition of the game, which was released in 2001. This is one of the devastating occurrences on the Oregon Trail.
